Homemade Halloween Costumes - Funny Costume Ideas
It’s open season on Halloween. Let’s face it, Halloween is not just for kids anymore. If you have lost count of how many times you've dressed up as a baseball player or witch, this is the place to be.
Here are some fun, clever ideas for a unique, nontraditional costume this year.
These costumes are easy to put together and require supplies that most have laying around the house.
Rubik's Cube
Get an appropriately sized cardboard box, and cut a hole for your head at the bottom of the box, and holes on both sides for your arms. Paint colored squares on each side.
You can even make the paper detachable so you can move the papers around during the night. Just make sure they don't fly off!
Adult Women's Costumes
Zebra
This costume is not for the faint of heart. This costume won the prize for Best Costume at a local bar last Halloween. The girl wore nothing but a white bikini (why I said not for the faint of heart). She had painted black and white stripes over any skin that showed, so... pretty much her whole body.
Then, she had sprayed her hair black for the night, and poofed it up so that it went straight back down toward her neck. Considering she had fairly long hair, she somehow attached her hair all down her back to make it look like a mane. One fantastic costume if you can pull it off.
Dinner Table
Use cardboard to make a table that will fit over your head. Secure the cardboard with straps that rest on your shoulders, so that the table goes around your waist. Cover the cardboard with a red checked tablecloth. Put play dishes and play food on the table, and add accessories (candle, salt and pepper shakers, menu, etc.).
Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer:
Dress up like an old lady, with dress, slippers and a grey wig. Then cut out paper hoof prints to place on your back... or go ahead and paint hoof prints right on the dress (unless you want to wear it again...).
Jack and Jill:
Get two t-shirts and write or paint JACK and JILL on the backs of each. Jack can wear a broken crown. Jill should have lots of bruises from tumbling after, bruised face and bloody lips. They can both carry around tin pails of water! Although it may be a good idea to cut out construction paper water...just to spare yourselves wet costumes later in the night.
Adult Mens Costumes
French Kiss:
Use aluminum foil and padding to mold yourself into a giant Hershey's Kiss. Add a French beret.
Just a few more...
Ok, so you’ve just been invited to your friend’s Halloween party, but alas, you don’t have a costume… Check out these quick ideas that are easy and are guaranteed to get a few laughs:
Bible:
A friend of mine went to the dollar store and purchased a cheap bible. She stapled the first page of every book in the bible to a large piece of fabric, which she then rolled around herself. Walla! She was a bible. If you are concerned about being sacrilegious or offending people, maybe this costume is not for you. However, I prefer to believe that God has a sense of humor :)
Babysitter:
Strap a doll to the seat of your pants and sit on it.
Werewolf:
Dress in everyday clothes. When someone asks why you're not dressed up, say that you're a werewolf, but it's not a full moon out tonight.
iPod Commercial:
Dress in ALL black, and use black make-up to cover exposed skin. Carry around an iPod and dance wildly. Preferably in front of bright solid color backdrops.
Static Cling:
Wear any kind of mismatched clothes, pin one pant leg up, pin dryer sheets on you as well as socks, small towels, etc., and then use hair gel to make your hair look like it has static
Leftovers:
Wrap your body in tin foil or saran wrap. Warning!: May get a little toasty so leave air holes. Also, wear clothes underneath the tin foil or wrap.
Here are some great ideas for larger groups:
Turf Wars:
Some of you will dress as The Three Amigos, and some of you will dress as Boarder Patrol. Chase each other around all night, it will be great.
Mario Kart Characters:
Get a group of your friends together and go as each character in Mario Kart, complete with race car made from cardboard. Each of you will attach 3 balloons to the rear of your cardboard race car, and then go your separate ways for the night.
The person who comes back at the end of the night with all their balloons wins.
Cast of characters from Clue
If you can wrangle a group of 6 willing participants, dress up like the characters from Clue. Distribute the 6 game weapons (toy wrench, candlestick, rope, dagger, lead pipe, and revolver) for clarification.
Professor Plum - grab a pair of scholarly looking glasses and a purple article of clothing and you're set. Fake (or real) mustaches welcome here. Bow tie and pipe also encouraged.
Mrs. White - usually depicted as a servant/housekeeper or cook in the original board game. A white apron, white chefs hat, white bonnet, or things to that effect would suffice for this Clue character.
Colonel Mustard - characterized as a soldier or military man, you can pull off this costume with yellow articles of clothing mixed with any military cut jacket you can find. If you can find a monocle... even better.
Miss Scarlet - she is usually depicted as an attractive woman in either a black or red dress. Miss Scarlet would be the ideal costume for one willing to work the femme fetale vibe on Halloween.
Mr. Green - portrayed as a crooked, money loving business man/mobster. For this costume you could wear green articles of clothing, a suit jacket, and stuff fake money in your pockets. Cigar and pinky ring are great additions to the Mr. Green costume.
Mrs. Peacock - usually drawn wearing blue, with a hat of peacock feathers. You can pull off this costume with blue clothing and a peacock feather. Mrs. Peacock has been characterized as an elegant socialite.
